Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) governs the use of Justice Compliance products, services, platforms, and related systems (“Services”). By accessing or using the Services, you agree to comply with this policy.

This policy applies to all users, including agency administrators, officers, authorized staff, contractors, and third parties granted access by a customer agency.

1. Purpose

The purpose of this Acceptable Use Policy is to:

  • Protect the security, integrity, and availability of Justice Compliance systems
  • Ensure lawful, ethical, and appropriate use of the Services
  • Support compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies
  • Safeguard sensitive law enforcement and justice-related information

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All Justice Compliance software platforms
  • Web, mobile, API, and integration access
  • All data processed, stored, or transmitted using the Services

Customers are responsible for ensuring their authorized users comply with this policy.

3. Prohibited Activities

Users may not use the Services to engage in activities that are unlawful, harmful, or interfere with system integrity.

A. Legal Violations

  • Violating any applicable local, state, federal, or international law
  • Misusing criminal justice information or protected records
  • Accessing data without proper authorization

B. System Abuse

  • Attempting to bypass security controls or authentication mechanisms
  • Introducing malware, viruses, or malicious code
  • Conducting vulnerability scans or penetration testing without authorization

C. Data Misuse

  • Unauthorized disclosure of sensitive, confidential, or restricted information
  • Accessing records outside official duties or agency authorization
  • Exporting or sharing data in violation of agency policies

D. Improper Use

  • Using the Services for personal, political, or commercial purposes
  • Harassment, intimidation, or misuse of communication features
  • Excessive or automated activity that degrades system performance

4. Law Enforcement–Specific Requirements

A. Authorized Use Only

  • Access must align with official job responsibilities
  • Role-based permissions must be respected
  • Shared credentials are prohibited

B. CJIS & Regulatory Alignment

  • Users must comply with applicable CJIS Security Policy requirements
  • Agencies remain responsible for user training and compliance oversight
  • Justice Compliance supports, but does not replace, agency policy enforcement

C. Data Accuracy & Integrity

  • Records must be entered accurately and timely
  • Intentional falsification or manipulation of records is prohibited
  • Audit logs may be used for compliance review

5. Security Requirements

A. Access Security

  • Strong passwords and multi-factor authentication (where enabled)
  • Immediate revocation of access for terminated or reassigned personnel

B. Device & Network Security

  • Use of agency-approved devices and networks
  • Protection against unauthorized access or data exposure

C. Incident Reporting

  • Suspected security incidents must be reported promptly to agency leadership
  • Justice Compliance must be notified of confirmed or suspected system misuse

6. Reporting Violations

A. Internal Reporting

Agencies should follow internal reporting and disciplinary procedures.

B. Reporting to Justice Compliance

Violations may be reported to:

7. Consequences of Violations

Violations of this policy may result in:

  • Temporary suspension of access
  • Permanent termination of user access
  • Termination of services (subject to contract terms)
  • Legal or regulatory action where required

Justice Compliance reserves the right to act to protect system integrity and security.

8. Monitoring and Enforcement

Justice Compliance may:

  • Monitor system activity for security and compliance purposes
  • Review audit logs as permitted by law and contract
  • Investigate suspected misuse in coordination with customer agencies

Monitoring is conducted consistent with privacy, security, and contractual obligations.

9. Changes to This Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy may be updated periodically. Continued use of the Services after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
